Now is the perfect time to pile in the car and head out for a scenic drive. The tree leaves are changing colors in the air is crisp and clear. Heath’s Auto Service is going to recommend some drives that you and your family will thoroughly enjoy. We also recommend that you bring your vehicle to our shop before you head out on the road to make sure it is ready for the trek.
Highway 180 and 64
You will need to head north for 81 miles to catch Highway 180. As you drive along Highway 180, you will be winding around the base of Arizona’s San Francisco Peaks. You will even see Mount Humphreys, which is the highest peak in Arizona at 12,633 feet. Aspen trees produce incredibly colorful fall foliage along the route, and if you continue on Highway 64, you’ll enter the Grand Canyon.
Route 89A
Catch Route 89A in Flagstaff and head south. This will lead you into the beautiful Oak Creek Canyon. You can pull over at viewpoints to take pictures of the canyon below. Along the route, you will find artisans from the Navajo and Hopi nations with plenty of jewelry and craft booths set up along the road. Continue down into the canyon to see the beautiful red rocks as you head toward Sedona.
Arizona’s Snowbowl Road
Catch Highway 180 north of Flagstaff and travel through the forests filled with ponderosa pine and aspen trees. When you reach Snowbowl Road, turn north onto it. You will travel seven miles to the Snowbowl parking area where you can park your car and get out. Walk along the trails to see amazing vistas filled with colors you cannot imagine. Take the scenic chairlift to the top of Agassi lift.
U.S. 89 – Wupatki Loop Road
U.S. 89 or Wupatki Loop Road is a 34-mile scenic road that takes you to the Sunset Crater Volcano. You will see stunning open meadows along the route as well as ponderosa pine forests. You also get a bird’s eye view of the Painted Desert. This drive only takes an hour along the loop, and you will end up in the Wupatki Basin viewing the Wupatki National Monument. Make sure to take plenty of pictures.
