Fleet Maintenance Checklist to Make Sure Your Vehicles Are Always Reliable

You rely on your fleet vehicles to keep your business earning a profit. Your drivers rely on the safety and reliability of these vehicles to keep them safe on the road and running their routes. Preventative maintenance is crucial to an effective fleet. Without maintenance, the vehicles break down or cause accidents. Heath’s Auto Service is the top fleet service shop in Flagstaff. Here is a basic checklist of what we do to make sure our customers’ fleet vehicles are always running at their best.

Battery Check

Battery checks are important, particularly in the spring after the cold weather has reduced battery performance. Temperatures affect the chemical reaction inside the battery that produces power. Batteries tend to lose a portion of their power in the winter, which leaves them weak in the spring.

Brake Service

Brakes can definitely be classified as one of the most important safety systems on your fleet of automobiles. Whether your drivers are carrying passengers or deliveries, if they cannot stop when they need to, disaster might ensue. Fleet vehicle brakes should be inspected every 15,000 miles.

Factory-Scheduled Services

Belts, hoses, fluids, filters, and other parts are checked during the mileage milestones that require factory-scheduled service. In most vehicles, these services are scheduled at 15,000 miles, 30,000 miles, 60,000 miles, 90,000 miles, and so on. These services keep the vehicles running like new, so don’t ignore them.

Fluid Changes

Oil should be changed every 3,000 miles on fleet vehicles to make sure that it is always fresh and viscous. Engine coolant and transmission fluid are usually changed every 30,000 miles. The same holds true for brake fluid, which should also be changed when needed when you have new brake pads installed on the vehicles.

Tire Service

Tire rotation is a good idea every 5,000 miles to 6,000 miles on fleet vehicles because they are on the go all the time. It’s also important to check the tire pressure to make sure it is exactly where it needs to be on a regular basis. This should be part of a daily vehicle inspection before your drivers hit the road.

Transmission Check

Fleet vehicle transmission checks are usually in order every 30,000 miles. Because fleet driving is hard on the transmission, it’s important to have any shifting trouble inspected right away. Your fleet vehicles likely do a lot of stop-and-go driving, and this can affect the engine and the transmission.

Wheel Service

Finally, have the wheels balanced at every tire rotation to ensure that the ride is smooth and the tire tread is wearing down evenly. Because your fleet vehicles are on the road quite a bit, it’s a good idea to get the wheels aligned once a year.
