Things to Do Before Your Summer Road Trip

Are you and your family ready for your summer road trip? Are you hitting the road with a bunch of friends? Either way, it’s important to make sure that your vehicle is ready for the added miles you are going to put on it. Heath’s Auto Service lists automotive services that you should have done before you leave on your summer road trip.

AC Check

You do not want to get stuck without air conditioning. This can make the road trip too hot and miserable. An annual AC check is in order to make sure that every air conditioning component is operating as it should be, including the compressor and condenser. It’s also important to make sure that the system has plenty of refrigerant in it and that there aren’t any refrigerant leaks.

Belt Check

Now is the perfect time to check all of your vehicle’s belts, too, to make sure none of them need to be changed. A broken belt can stop your vehicle cold and, if it’s the timing belt, it can seriously damage your vehicle’s engine. Let us look for frayed and worn belts before you hit the road.

Fluid Check

It’s also time to check all of your automotive fluids, including your engine coolant and transmission oil. You do not want to get stuck on the road overheating because your engine coolant needed to be changed. You also don’t want to get stranded because you have transmission problems due to old and dirty transmission oil. We will check all of your vehicle’s fluids and change them or top them off if necessary.

Hose Check

It’s also important to have all of the hoses checked to make sure that none of them are cracked or leaking. For example, if you have a radiator hose that is leaking, your engine will overheat because the coolant levels will be reduced by the leak. We can replace any hoses that need it.

Oil Change

Perhaps the most important fluid check is the oil. If you are due for an oil change, do not leave on your trip without getting it done. You’ve probably heard this a million times, but motor oil is your engine’s lifeblood. It’s important to have fresh motor oil in the engine before any road trip.

Tire Check

Finally, avoid flat tires by getting your tires checked. If they need to be rotated, now is the perfect time to do so. We can also balance the wheels and align them if they are out of alignment. If the tires need to be replaced, do so before you leave on your trip.
