You finish filling the tank, replace the nozzle, and pull away. Later that day, the check engine light appears. The car sounds normal. Nothing feels different. Naturally, you wonder whether the stop at the gas station had something to do with it.
It might have.
A loose fuel cap is one of the simplest reasons for this warning, although it is not the only fault connected with refueling.
Take Another Look at the Cap
The fuel cap helps create a sealed system. If it is left loose, fitted at an angle, or has a damaged seal, the vehicle may detect escaping vapor.
